Tashinga Initiative is taking on the Wildlife Ranger Challenge to raise awareness of the vital role these 43 Zimparks rangers play in protecting Zimbabwe's Safari areas, and supporting an estimated 210 livelihoods.

My story
Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They hold diverse roles as conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. Culminating on 16th September 2023, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.
For WRC 2023, your support to the ZAVARU-Chewore ZimParks Rangers could be far-reaching: to continue providing those monthly, all-important patrol food hampers, that Rangers are operationalised with appropriate and essential patrol kit, vehicle patrols through Dande, plus the communal land north and south of Dande, need fuel each month and of course, Rangers’ morale is strengthened through the provision of life insurance cover.

This particular team is made up of Rangers based at ZAVARU (Zambezi Valley Reaction Unit), Mana Pools National Park and Chewore North (combined 3,460sq. km), and form part of the patrol effort across the unique landscape that makes up the Zambezi Valley’s 12,820 sq km of wildlife protected areas.
Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2023 done!
Sep 28, 2023, 6:17:13 AMWe had the greatest time on the run, and because of some logistical issues we decided to join up with our neighbours Team Hurungwe so that we could share resources, i.e. support vehicle and the fuels that were needed for this support. We were so delighted to have been part of WRC 2023 and look forward very much to 2024! We had a great luncheon afterwards, prepared by the Rangers and Ranger wives at Marongora, and also supported by Tashinga Initiative Support Team Gidion. Thank you WRC!
21km marathon underway! 16th September - the big day has arrived!

Well done to this team for getting to this point, the final of the 3 challenges in Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2023! We can't wait to get your results!
Wildlife Ranger Challenge Pushup Challenge update!
Aug 9, 2023, 8:46:12 PMWow it's been an exciting few days as Team members were scattered in different locations, all trying to get their 2-min Pushup Challenge underway, videoed by patrol mates, and then trying to get the video back to our base has posed huge challenges, but in the end, a few hours ago, these videos came through, showing us their super endeavour and determination! Well done Team ZAVARU-Chewore! Really great work, in a short space of time!

Providing the team with the support that is needed, the team have undertaken the Challenge, joining in with hundreds of Rangers across the continent of Africa! These Rangers are based in southern Mana Pools National Park but their patrol work extends across the large contiguous protected areas landscape that makes up the Zambezi Valley. Lets support them please!
