My story

Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They hold diverse roles as conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. Culminating on 16th September 2023, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.

Uganda Conservation Foundation - Murchison Falls National Park's business model is based on tourism revenue, which through and after COVID disappeared leaving UWA unable to fulfil their mandate of protecting wildlife, habitat and biodiversity across Uganda. Compounded by the flooding of the River Nile and Lakes Edward and George, which in turn collapsed fisheries and flooded agricultural lands - with crops failing season after season. Logistics and operational in parks ground to a halt with UWA unable to cross the Nile, with the jetty 2.5m underwater.

The WRC provided the opportunity to keep patrol cars, bikes and boats maintained and moving, for anti-poaching, problem animal control / HWC mitigation, veterinary responses to lions, elephants and giraffe in snares. The fund also provided monthly food for rangers and paid for community scouts to help clear snares from the park on a daily basis.. This is critical as UWA is operating with less than 1/4th of the number of rangers required.

2023 focuses on the scouts and their ability to continue to contribute to the protection of the parks and focus on the maintenance of ranger posts and boats post COVID

Give today and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact.

Thank you for your support last year! We successfully completed the 21km race with 22kg on our backs, finishing in 2nd place among the teams that ran at Murchison Falls National Park. Although it was tough and we finished bruised and exhausted, it was worth it and we’re grateful for all the donations and the awareness about the work that we do. We have already started preparations for this year’s race and we shall be sharing updates here and on our social media pages periodically as we go along. Consider supporting our team with a donation and share the link with your family and friends!

We are getting ready!

Support a unique conservation initiative empowering and uniting wildlife rangers across Africa.

Wildlife rangers operate on the very frontline of conservation across Africa, routinely making personal sacrifices to put their lives on the line to protect the continent’s magnificent wildlife and habitats. Yet they are so much more than just law enforcement officers: rangers are teachers, community support workers, mediators, researchers and so much more. Unfortunately, resources are not keeping pace with the scale of the challenges they are trying to tackle. For the fourth year running, the Wildlife Ranger Challenge sets out to redress this, by raising critical funding to cover operating costs, including salaries and equipment, for over 10,000 rangers. This will help them protect threatened wildlife and some of the continent's most vulnerable areas, while also protecting communities and securing coexistence with wildlife, as well as providing for their own families.

Support a unique conservation initiative empowering and uniting wildlife rangers across Africa.
